The dog was beaten to death in North Branch, Minn. Her owners say they plan to take legal action against the children’s parents.

The Darwins picked out Bella when she was three days old, making trips up to Askov, Minn., to visit and photograph the puppy they hoped to bring to their home in North Branch.

She arrived April 29, a slightly under 1-pound miniature pinscher that would crawl up into the crook of their necks, &#99url up and fall asleep.

She quickly became part of the family, but their time together ended June 12 when three neighborhood boys, two 6-year-olds and an 8-year-old, apparently beat her to death. Amy Darwin said it looked like they had used a stick and a rock slightly smaller than a cantaloupe. Bella, who had grown to about 3 pounds, suffered a broken leg and was pronounced brain dead and put on a ventilator that afternoon, Darwin said. The family decided to disconnect the ventilator, and she died about an hour later.

“I was just devastated,” Darwin said. “It was awful. And to know that they were 6 and 8, it was just awful. It’s scary that they are capable of this.”

Bella was normally kept indoors in a kennel when the Darwins left the house, but Monday they decided to tie her in the back yard behind a 5-foot privacy fence, Darwin said.

Piecing events together

The family of four, including 3- and 7-year-old sisters, left for the grocery store about 1:30 p.m. When they returned about two hours later, Bella was lying in her bed unresponsive. Darwin said she picked up Bella’s head and it dropped back down. Bella struggled to breathe.

While they waited at the veterinarian’s office, Darwin said, they started piecing together what happened. A key piece of evidence: A bicycle glove that belonged to a neighborhood boy was found in their back yard, Darwin said.

The police were called, and the alleged perpetrators were identified. One of the 6-year-old boys went to the Darwins’ house that night to apologize. His father, who did not want to be identified, said that he is crushed about what happened and that his son knows that what he did was wrong although he doesn’t fully comprehend the impact. The father doesn’t dispute what happened but offered his condolences and financial restitution for his son’s role.

The other 6-year-old boy’s mother, who also did not want to be identified, said her son was there but was not involved in the beating. Both boys’ parents said that their children have been grounded.

Case referred to county

Police said they had referred the case to Chisago County Attorney Katherine Johnson, said she could not talk specifically about the case because it involves juveniles. She said the consequences for juveniles can range from counseling to criminal charges.

The Darwins said they have never had problems with the boys before and don’t know why their dog was targeted.

The incident has shaken the Darwins so much that they put their house up for sale the day after Bella died, Amy Darwin said. They plan to stay in North Branch.

“We don’t want our kids to live down the street from people like that,” she said. “They [the boys] need some help.”

Family plans legal action

They also plan to take legal action in small claims court or on the TV show “The People’s Court.” The Darwins contacted the show and have been told there is interest in their case. If nothing else, the boys should get community service, Darwin said.

“She was a big part of our family,” she said. “It’s a big void.”

I hate it when you call someone and they don’t even bother to call you back to tell you to fuck off.

Today I spent the entire day doing absolutely nothing. I should have done a few things like dishes and laundry and cleaning the turtle tank, but I ended up sleeping and lounging around instead. I am going to try to get around to doing dishes later tonight if I am not too drunk.

Speaking of drinking, I have had a few rum and cokes tonight, I really like putting in fresh lime juice in it. My recipe: 2 or more ounces of Captain Morgan’s, ½ lime, 16 ounces coke and half of a tray of ice. Yum!

I am uploading more pictures and stuff right now. To give you a preview, this is one of my favorite photographs I have taken:

I remember having to do some dodging and burning in order to get this just right.

You can see more at my blog at Who Gives a Crap.

I have (most) everything scanned that I want to scan; next will be the negatives from my photography class. I hope that they are clean and in good shape. For those of you in the know, what is the best way to clean negatives? After I scan them I am going to shop them only enough to do dogging and burning and do comparisons of before and after on the flog.

So I am thinking about starting a project. I want to place a simple page up that will allow people to upload to me. I want to password protect it so that after 5 attempts it bans the IP address until I choose to un ban it. The password part I think will be the most challenging for me. Ana, wanna help? 😉

I am converting Band of Brothers to DVD for my dad. It took several weeks for me to download, and looks like it is taking over night to convert.

How are you doing? Any new news?

in the Navy!

So the last three weeks Rachael and I have not done shit as far as going otu and doing stuff.

The four day weekend I called her a couple of times and got no response from her at all.

Every day this week I have gotten a call and knocks on my door at 830am with her wanting me to take her to work.

She works less than a mile away, it takes 15 minutes to walk to work. Fucking lazy bitch. It has not rained. I am not her taxi driver. I am not going to take her to work, expecially after she blows me off and the relationship is not going anywhere. I am tired of her jounior high school games. Fuck her.

This was made in 1998 durring the time that Crystal fucked me over. It is made with markers, colored pencils, paint, glow in the dark paint, electrical tape, candle wax, and crayola markers as well.

I really like it for some reason.

Death From Puss

To give you an idea of it’s actual size, I had to scan it eight times to get all of it.

Some things I used to keep in my Jimmy…

This was in my Jimmy for a really long time. I got it at Casa Bonita in Denver.

I found a bunch of my art I have done over the last 20 years as well, including something I did in 5th grade I won an award for. I also found a box of stuff I had all over my walls in my apartment in Oklahoma when I was looking for something else. Some of these will be scanned and uploaded soon. Aren’t you lucky?

Here is a sample of something I did in Printmaking while attending Columbine. It is my doggie Gucci wearing sunglasses.

It has deffinately been around and mistreated unfortunally. I still have the metal plate, so I just need the paper and a press and I can make more, even though with something like this no two are exactly alike.
